DIY Websites
The temptation of DIY to save money
How to create my own website is a common question
When it comes to building your own DIY website, it’s very easy to get caught up in the adverts selling these “easy to build websites”. Many online businesses such as WIX, Godaddy etc offer templates and easy-to-use tools that allow users to create a working site. Many of our clients who started out using those tools eventually decided against them because “it didn’t look professional”, This is where the DIY website issues comes in.
Inexperience could cost big.
When it comes to a DIY website, you may know how to put fonts and pictures in place. However, designing a colour scheme and layout around your text content the same way a designer would is extremely difficult.
If you’re pretty good at it and somewhat technical, then it can look fine. However, “fine” could mean you are wasting an opportunity to make an impact or attract new leads to your website. If design is not your strong point, you could make an even worse impression on your visitors, regardless of how sound your product or service is. This could cost in the long run as you’ve spent weeks if not months building a website for you to end up paying for a web designer.

Time is money when it comes to a DIY website.
Too often we only associate cost with money e.g it costs money to purchase an item or a product. We forget that the effort and time it would take to build a DIY website along with any costs. This effectively could be lost indirect money from lost sales and revenue.
You’ve researched into paying a web designer and even the lower end seems expensive for something you could “do yourself.” You can end up spending up to 2/3 months building your website. Ask yourself – what are those hours worth? How much ROI will this give you? Will your website be SEO friendly?
